EDUCATION DAY: IESALC LAUNCHES WEBINAR ON THE RIGHT TO EDUCATION
On January 24th the International Institute for Higher Education in Latin America and the Caribbean (IESALC) joins the celebration of International Education Day, date that was proposed by the United Nations in order to recognize education as a fundamental pillar for sustainable development, as a human right and as a collective social asset.
The occasion will be conducive to assess the place of higher education as a human right, as well as its pending agenda, through the El derecho a la educación (The Right to Education) webinar presented by José Antonio Quinteiro, IESALC program coordinator.
The online presentation proposes a walk through the history of binding and non-binding legal instruments that, since the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (1948) to this day, have had an impact on higher education, as well as the transformation of the latter as an enabling agent of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).
This webinar is the first of a series scheduled within the framework of the celebration of International Education Day 2020. It will feature the participation of UNESCO Chairs on higher education at an international level with the aim of disseminating their institutions’ experiences and contributions towards the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).
