Call for articles submission for the next ESS journal (Vol. 35, No. 1-2023)
The Journal Higher Education and Society (ESS in Spanish) of the UNESCO International Institute for Higher Education in Latin America and the Caribbean (IESALC) opens its call for Volume 35 which will include a thematic dossier entitled: “The Futures of Higher Education in Latin America and the Caribbean”.
In the last year, we have witnessed several global actions (events and initiatives) of utmost importance for higher education, which pose challenges that should be addressed by national systems and institutions, and require in-depth analysis and debate by the academic community.
The first of these events was the launch -in November 2021- of the UNESCO’s Futures of Education flagship initiative, a global push to reimagine how knowledge and learning can shape the future of humanity and the planet. After an intense collaborative production process, the document “Reimagining Our Futures Together: A New Social Contract for Education” was released.
Within the framework of this same initiative, UNESCO IESALC has also contributed to the discussion with the Project “The Futures of Higher Education”, which aims to stimulate creative thinking and ideas on the futures of higher education towards 2050 and, through consultations with experts in higher education, the general public and young people. In this sense, the report “Thinking Higher and Beyond: Perspectives on the Futures of Higher Education to 2050″ was launched.
UNESCO IESALC also published a report on the futures of higher education, at the end of September 2022, with the title “The higher education we want: Youth voices on the futures of higher education“. For more information, please click here.
The third action was the organization of the UNESCO World higher Education Conference held in Barcelona, Spain, last May, which resulted in the document “Beyond Limits. New Ways to Reinvent Higher Education”. A “road map” for the next decade.
Thus, on this occasion the Dossier “The Futures of Higher Education in Latin America and the Caribbean” – to be edited by Elia Marum Espinosa (University of Guadalajara, Mexico), Cristian Perez Centeno (Universidad Nacional de Tres de Febrero, Argentina) and Emma Sabzalieva (UNESCO IESALC) – calls for articles that critically engage with the ideas set out in the reports produced in connection with the events and initiatives mentioned above and, based on studies and research that refer to the current debates and proposals for the future implied in the aforementioned documents, analyze, in a contextualized, regional or national manner, their formulations in relation to Higher Education in Latin America and the Caribbean.
The deadline for submission of articles for this issue (General Section and Dossier) is February 28, 2023.
All articles received will be subjected to anonymous external peer review (double blind).
The General Editor of the ESS Journal, doctor Norberto Fernández Lamarra (Universidad Nacional de Tres de Febrero, Argentina), invites you to send your articles through the platform of the Journal Higher Education and Society.
