Internship on Inclusion Policies in Higher Education in LAC
The International Institute for Higher Education in Latin America and the Caribbean (IESALC), the only institution within UNESCO and the United Nations system exclusively dedicated to higher education, is currently seeking to recruit an intern to carry out duties and responsibilities related to inclusion policies in higher education (HE), for the fulfilment of the work plan of the program Inclusion 360º: Redefining of Higher Education.
Job Family: Higher Education
Type and Duration of contract: Intern (entry-level program). Full-time online (40 hours/week) for 3 months, with possible extension to 3 additional months. Part-time possible only for specific circumstances.
Monthly allowance: 300 USD. No additional benefits are provided.
Location: Remote. Applicants are responsible for ensuring they have a reliable high speed internet connection and the necessary technology for office work.
Start date: April 2024.

Overview of the functions of the post
UNESCO’s International Institute for Higher Education (IESALC) is the only specialized Institute (Category 1) in the United Nations system with a mandate for higher education improvement in member states. UNESCO IESALC’s vision is to promote the right to higher education through capacity development for the formulation and implementation of quality, equitable, and inclusive higher education policies at the national, regional, and institutional levels in in Member States, with a global outreach. UNESCO IESALC operates in English and Spanish.
IESALC team is seeking to recruit an intern that will carry out some of the following duties and responsibilities under the overall authority of the Director of UNESCO IESALC:
- Undertake literature and case-study research on key aspects in higher education of inclusive policy (institution and system levels).
- Contribute to the collection, verification, and analysis of data on higher education policies and systems.
- Assisting in drafting short research and policy reports/notes.
- Support international liaison with UNESCO field offices, governmental authorities in higher education and other relevant stakeholders.
- Assisting in producing other dissemination documents (podcasts, blogs, social media posts, etc.).
- Contribute to the organization of meetings and events (both face-to-face and online).
- Carry out any other duty relevant to the fulfilment of the work plan of project Inclusion 360º: Redefining of Higher Education.
After completion of the assignment, the intern will have:
- Acquired an in-depth knowledge of higher education policy.
- Gained a good working knowledge of the operations of and with an intergovernmental organization.
- Increase his/her familiarity with higher education data and analysis.
- Improve his/her drafting skills.
- Acquired project management skills; setting particular objectives and developed appropriate mediation, monitoring and evaluation mechanisms.
- Strengthened his/her analytical, communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills.

Required qualifications
Education: University degree in the field of social sciences, education, public policy.
Language: Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
Desirable qualifications
Education: Education or professional experience in the field of higher education policy or social inclusion would be an asset.
Skills/competencies: Experience with research, communication and project management and drafting.
Language: Fluency in Spanish essential. Knowledge of another UNESCO official language (Arabic, Chinese, Spanish, and/or Russian), would be an asset.
