ChatGPT, artificial intelligence and higher education: What do higher education institutions need to know?
17 April, 2023 hora: 10:00 am - 11:30 am
ChatGPT has taken the world by storm, reaching 100 million users within months of the latest version being launched. ChatGPT’s impact on higher education has been both immediate and divisive. A number of universities have banned it over fears of student plagiarism in essays and exams, whereas many students, teachers and researchers have welcomed this latest technological development. Does ChatGPT really threaten academic integrity? Is ChatGPT a wake up call for higher education to fundamentally re-examine pedagogical approaches and assessment tools? What are the equity implications of ChatGPT in higher education, particularly in relation to access to and mastery of this tool? Is ChatGPT here to stay? What will be the next big trend in artificial intelligence, and how can higher education institutions better prepare to adapt to continuing advances in AI?
These and other questions will be explored in this interactive webinar. Arianna Valentini, Analyst from UNESCO IESALC’s Research and Foresight team will be behind the questions we will ask ChatGPT, along with Francesc Pedró, Director of UNESCO IESALC and Axel Rivas, Professor-Researcher and Director of the School of Education, University of San Andrés, and Academic Director, Applied Research in Education Centre San Andrés, Argentina, will help us discuss the main advantages and disadvantages of using ChatGPT in higher education.
