Global Sustainable Development Congress 2024: Uniting higher education, governments, industry and society for a sustainable future

The Global Sustainable Development Congress co-hosted by Thailand’s Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation brings together 3,000 global thought leaders and innovators to discuss urgent solutions to the sustainability emergency, will be held from 10 to 13 June 2024, at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center in Bangkok, Thailand.
Challenging the usual thinking on what higher education, governments, businesses and society must do to help society meet the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the congress is a call to action for global universities and businesses to pivot their educational, research, innovation and outreach programmes towards tangible outcomes.
Themes that will be discussed are: Digital revolution for Sustainable Development; Education, gender and inequality; Energy decarbonization and Sustainable Industry; Health, well-being and demography; Sustainable cities and communities; and Sustainable food, land, water and oceans.
On 12 June and 13, Victoria Galán-Muros, Chief of Research and Analysis at UNESCO IESALC, will deliver a masterclass about the contribution of higher education institutions to sustainable cities and communities (SDG11) together with Ishan Cader, Director of Consulting at Times Higher Education. Galán-Muros will also participate in the panel: “Research and innovation for sustainable and equitable access to education”, that will highlight how research and innovation stakeholders are evolving to align their practices to generate tangible improvements in education outcomes for all. And finally, she will facilitate the workshop “How to implement sustainability within higher education institutions: A practical approach” in which a general guidelines published by UNESCO IESALC will be presented.
