Emma Sabzalieva, Head of Research and Foresight at UNESCO IESALC, will present the theme: “Internationalization for all? Towards a sustainable future for academic mobility”, on December 16, 2022 at 21:10h (Caracas time GMT-4).
As a hallmark of internationalization, academic mobility has been severely affected during the Covid-19 pandemic, with students and researchers caught by border closures and health restrictions. Despite the immense challenges, this period has also seen great innovation in higher education internationalization with the development of virtual forms of mobility providing learners with authentic and deep intercultural and international experiences. Informed by a new UNESCO study mapping the experiences of 73 universities from 38 countries during the pandemic, this presentation discusses the implementation of virtual student mobility in global perspective. The presentation will also focus on the prospects for the sustainable transformation of academic mobility in the coming years.
