Latin American Congress on Higher Education. Education with meaning and relevance 2024

The ‘Latin American Congress on Higher Education: Education with Meaning and Relevance’ will take place online and in person from 1 to 4 October in San José, Costa Rica, to reflect on the work of Latin American higher education institutions in relation to the challenges of the regional context.

The inaugural panel aims to inspire participants to rethink and co-create an education system that not only responds to the demands of the 21st century, but also creates engaged citizens prepared to contribute positively to the development of their communities and countries.

Participants will include Sylvia Valenzuela Tovar, Vice President of the Latin American University Union (ULEU); Laura Ramirez Saborío, Executive Director of the National Higher Education Accreditation System (SINAES); Yuma Inzolia, Director of Capacity Development at the International Institute for Higher Education in Latin America and the Caribbean (IESALC – UNESCO) and Randall Blanco Lizano, retired research professor at the University of Costa Rica (UCR), moderated by William Solís-Brenes, Vice Rector for Educational Innovation, Academic Quality and Research at the International University of the Americas (UIA).

The panellists will discuss current trends, challenges and opportunities for the work of higher education institutions in consolidating policies and actions to improve professional, social and research training with a view to providing comprehensive and quality education on the social, economic, political and cultural realities of the region.
