UNESCO General Conference

The UNESCO General Conference, held in Paris from November 9 to 24, will celebrate the Organization’s 75th anniversary. Its 193 Member States will make a number of important decisions, particularly in relation to cultural policies and heritage protection, the future of education, and the place and ethics of science and technology in our societies.
On November 12, starting at 3:30 p.m., an exceptional ceremony will be organized and broadcast live from UNESCO Headquarters in Paris to celebrate the 75th anniversary of UNESCO. Numerous heads of state and government and several internationally renowned artists will participate.
The General Conference will proceed with the election of its President (on November 9 in the morning) and of the Director General (on 9 in the afternoon). The latter’s inauguration will take place in a special plenary session on November 22 in the afternoon. The UNESCO Executive Board, which considered this issue at its October meeting, proposed the renewal of the mandate of Audrey Azoulay, current Director. At the General Conference, she will present his vision for the future of UNESCO.
UNESCO will present the long-awaited Report on the Futures of Education (November 10, from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.), prepared by an independent commission of experts headed by Sahle-Work Zewde, President of the Republic of Ethiopia. On November 10 (from 2:30 pm to 6:00 pm), UNESCO will host the Global Education Meeting’s High-Level Segment, organized with the French government.
